The Choice House Difference

The decision to enter a drug rehab facility is a milestone that will likely change the course of a person’s life. Addiction keeps us trapped in a harmful cycle that stunts our personal growth and hurts our loved ones, but getting sober provides a chance to break free and start working toward a healthier, safer and more fulfilling future. The journey to get there isn’t one that should be taken lightly.

Choice House is Colorado’s premier addiction treatment facility for breaking the bonds of addiction and helping men find a new, sober lifestyle. We offer a unique experience that incorporates the best of holistic and outdoor therapies, evidence-based techniques and gender-specific programming to provide tremendously positive, life-long results.

Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or a loved one, our goal is to help clients develop the tools they need to get and stay sober. Our range of complementary modalities provides an opportunity for hope, healing and transformation you won’t find elsewhere.

“I can’t say enough about Choice House. I have spent the last year of my life in the program and it has been exactly what I needed to get my head straight and my life back on track.”

what makes choice house different?

At Choice House, we’ve set ourselves apart by adopting a long-term, gender-specific treatment model. We know that healing from addiction doesn’t happen overnight, so our program provides enough time to build a strong foundation for lasting recovery, one that can be stood upon no matter what challenges await going forward. Combined with the expertise of our compassionate staff, proven modalities and an exclusive outdoor component, our approach helps clients let go of the addiction and trauma that prevents them from embracing their full potential.

long-term treatment model

Other rehab facilities with a 30-day treatment model run the risk of becoming a revolving door. That’s because once addiction takes hold, it becomes deeply rooted in our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In most cases, it takes longer than a few weeks to not only undo the damage that’s been done, but to establish a healthier way of living without drugs or alcohol.

Our rehab center practices a long-term treatment model for the best results. We believe that at least 3 months are needed to effectively break the bonds of addiction, which is why our clients start with our 90-day residential treatment program. Then, they’ll have the option to transition to our structured sober living homes, where they’ll continue with our IOP program for ongoing support throughout each stage of the recovery process.

Some of the proven benefits of long-term drug treatment include:

  • More time to practice recovery techniques
  • Increased chance of developing a strong community that will last beyond initial treatment
  • Make the most of therapy and counseling while in rehab
  • Break the cycle of dependency
  • Turn new coping skills and behaviors into healthier habits
  • Higher level of support from start to finish
  • Chance to dig deeper into the underlying causes of addiction, such as mental illness, trauma and other risk factors

numerous therapeutic modalities

We know every individual is different, which is why we offer a plethora of options for healing from addiction. Our programs are catered to many different personality types and take into account factors such as one’s background, mental health, substance abuse history and more to ensure that each client finds the method that resonates best with them.

A few of our therapeutic modalities include:

We also provide dual diagnosis treatment to address co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety or depression that are strongly linked to addiction and substance abuse. And with a strong emphasis on family and community involvement, we offer a family program, virtual family workshops, and weekly/monthly zoom meetings for loved ones to help rebuild the trust that’s been lost.

“The programs at Choice House have proven to be a valuable step in my son’s sobriety journey. The staff’s careful attention to each resident’s individual issues and constant communication and supervision has made it easier for him to develop new life patterns.”

gender-specific programming

While addiction doesn’t discriminate, it does affect men and women differently. To address this, we’ve created a gender-specific setting tailored to the unique needs of men in recovery. Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment that encourages more openness and honesty, where men can form stronger bonds and freely talk about the painful or traumatic life experiences that may have led them to us. We’ve also found that gender-specific care eliminates distractions, reduces feelings of stigma or shame, and helps clients better focus on their own health and sobriety while in treatment.

With the Flatirons and Rocky Mountain National Park as our playground, we have ample opportunities for engaging in powerful outdoor adventure therapy. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, hiking or rock climbing, we go above and beyond the basics of addiction programming and provide a number of unique opportunities for healing through nature. With this approach, our clients are able to build the skills and confidence they need to stay sober while forming powerful positive connections with others. In addition to incorporating an outdoor component into our regular treatment programming, we also organize wilderness excursions every 6 weeks to help clients get out of their comfort zones and experience renewed growth and healing.

“Choice House literally creates a brotherhood of recovery. Regular outdoor activities, lively game nights and common cookouts all provide exciting respite from a program designed to challenge the individual to take charge of their recovery and their lives. Choice House has transformed my life and the lives of the brothers for life who befriended me in the program.”

focus on the family

We understand that addiction does not just affect the primary individual – it also takes a toll on their entire family and those closest to them. But all too often, the family’s needs are ignored during treatment, letting feelings of guilt, resentment, or anger continue to grow. That’s why our approach to recovery also emphasizes healing for the entire family unit, with a dedicated family program, virtual family workshops and regular family zoom meetings. Our family program is offered every 5 to 6 weeks and led by Jill Krush, our chief clinical officer with more than 15 years of experience in helping individuals and families overcome the effects of addiction and trauma. It combines lectures, interactive role play and group processes to help families learn new ways of resolving the issues that have been caused by substance abuse.

warrior workshops

We all carry around trauma in some form or another. This is especially true for those with addiction or mental health issues, but facing the past and coming to terms with it is an essential step in the recovery process. To help clients let go of their trauma, we host a therapeutic warrior workshop every 6 weeks, where participants can focus on the issues relevant to them and get past whatever’s holding them back. These provide an incredibly powerful experience that can reach even those who are resistant or closed off, allowing them to open up, feel vulnerable and have an emotional breakthrough that carries them forward.

Our team of clinicians, therapists, behavioral technicians and supportive staff members are fully qualified and trained to help individuals find healing from addiction and navigate the recovery process.
